Are travelers really affected by the altitude?

YES. As you ascend to higher altitudes, atmospheric pressure decreases, the air is thinner and less oxygen is available. Above 8,000 feet altitude you will probably notice that your breathing is faster and/or deeper. You may feel short of breath, especially when exercising, develop nausea, unusual tiredness, headache or have difficulty sleeping. To acclimatize faster, here are some tips:

Increase fluid intake
Decrease salt intake
Moderate your physical activity
Eat high carbohydrate, low fat meals
Reduce alcohol and caffeine intake

Keystone's base elevation is 9,300 feet and summit elevation is 12,200 feet. You are strongly encouraged to drink lots of water starting a few days before departure, but especially starting from your arrival in Denver.
